How to Apply KT Tape for Upper Back Pain
Upper back pain after running?
Check out this Kinesio tape technique for the neck, shoulders, and upper back.
- Cut a length of 5cm-wide kinesiology tape long enough to reach from your upper back, between the shoulder blades, up the neck to a few centimeters below the hairline.
Starting at one end, split the strip of kinesiology tape right down the center with scissors.
Leave an unsplit tab about 5cm long at the other end.
- Tip your head over to the right and hold it there, to stretch the tissues down the left side of your neck.
Then, apply a piece of unstretched kinesiology tape to run down the left side of your neck and along the top of your left shoulder.
- Repeat step 2 for the right-hand side of your neck.
- Apply a final strip of tape across your upper back from one shoulder blade to the other.
This strip needs to be applied with full stretch. Stretch it from each end and apply the middle part first, and then release the tension as you apply the very ends of the strip.
The tape should be applied just below the level of the large plate of bone (the spine of the scapula) on the upper shoulder blades.
- That’s it!
