What Is A Hip Labral Tear?
The hip joint is responsible for bearing your body weight as you walk, stand, sit, and run.
These movements require the hip joint to be very flexible while still maintaining stability for our bones, soft tissues, and muscles.
In fact, the only joint that allows more range of motion than the hip is the shoulder.
Unfortunately, all of this movement and weight-bearing makes the hip joint prone to injuries, such as a labral tear.
A hip labral tear is an injury to the labrum, the soft tissue that covers the socket (acetabulum) of the hip.
A hip labral tear can be caused by degenerative issues, structural problems, or injury.
Hip Labral Tear Symptoms Lower Back Pain
The symptoms of a hip labral tear include, but are not limited to:
- Hip pain or stiffness
- Feeling unsteady on your feet
- Pain in the groin or buttocks area
- A locking or clicking sound in the hip area when you move
If you have a hip labral tear, hip discomfort or pain may get worse when you move, bend, or rotate the hip, exercise, or play sports.
It’s also possible to have a hip labral tear with no symptoms at all.
Treatment for Hip Labral Tear
Treatment may include anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy (may be paired with KT tape for lower back pain for added pain relief), as well as medication injections.
While hip pain usually isn’t life-threatening, it can significantly affect how you live your life.
Any hip or groin pain that doesn’t go away after a few days should be evaluated by a medical specialist.
